Travel Photo Friday: St. Anne Parish Church in Molo, Iloilo City

This is the first entry in my Travel Photo Friday series for this year. I just came back from Iloilo City for the Dinagyang Festival and thought of featuring the church of St. Anne Parish found in Molo, Iloilo City where I was born and raised.

Prior to going to the Dinagyang Festival Ati-ati Tribes Competition on January 22, I made sure to drop by the church and took pictures of her. Iloilo is known for its old historical churches and St. Anne is one of those churches that has stood the test of time, including earthquakes and wars. Being just five minutes walk away from our house, this church has become a part of me when I was growing up. She stood witness to my baptism, first holy communion and other important events in my life (and maybe to my own wedding too in the future?).

The Church of St. Anne Parish was built in 1831 and is known to be the only Gothic church outside of Manila. It shows a magnificent example of Gothic-Renaissance architecture that makes her beauty truly stand out. St. Anne was also one of the churches that Jose Rizal visited during his exile to Dapitan in August 1986. In 1922, the church was formally declared as a national landmark by the National Historical Institute. St. Anne is dubbed as a "feminist" church because of the presence of 16 statues of female saints inside.

Visitors who plan to do church hopping in Iloilo should NEVER miss the church of St. Anne Parish in Molo.

Churches are one of the structures that amaze me. When I visit a place, I ensure I visit a church. It tells a lot about the place kasi. Nice photo of that church. My fave from my trips is the one in Ilocos.

Iloilo is really a perfect destination for Visita Iglesia on Holy Week.
